Most Memorable Moments-Nerhu

My most memorable moment in the book was when Ponyboy saw Bob dead on the ground and Johnny was holding a knife. I remember this very well because Johnny was very quiet, he was very nice and I did not think that he would kill Bob. I also was surprised because Ponyboy did not seem very scared. I assumed that he would be scared and that he would look at Johnny a whole new way but he did `t. I grew confused when they decided to run from the law because they could have hid in one of their gang`s houses. I infer that Ponyboy and Johnny were very scared and they probably were not thinking properly. Dally was very distraught and wanted Johnny to be safe so he told them to hide. I think that Dally depicted the situation as worse than it really was.

Most Memorable Moment Journal- Atharshan Kennedy

Most Memorable Moment: Outsiders

1.The most memorable part of my assigned part of the book that we are ready" The Outsiders", was when Pony boy was (beaten) slapped by Dally, his brother. Pony boy had should an emotional pain of feeling as he was in shocked by what happened to him. As Pony boy had started to run away , Dally tried to forgive him but it was too late. Ponyboy had already left the house and went to Johnny for some advice since he was going to run away from his problems at home and become like Johnny, uncaring, willing to live in the cold while his parents abuse him for no reason at all. Even Johnny was curious about Pony boy being all high and sad and having tears pour out of him. Johnny then realized that Dally was to hard on Pony boy which upset him emotional inside him .

2.A another part was when, well this isn't part of my assigned part of the book but it is shocking. At the beginning of the story Dally, Ponyboy, and Sodapop was one family who lived under their parents house. But one day both their mother and father were both (dead) hit in a car accident. The three boys have to live by themselves and have no role models since there not there any more. Since that day they weren't the same ever again. Soda dropped out of school.Dally had went to jail for crimes he did. And Pony boy, well lets just say he turned quite rebellious and had to disobey every thing that his brothers told him to do. But at least Soda is nice to Ponyboy unlike Dally who can't control his anger.

3. When Johnny gets hurt due to a stab from a knife by the other gang, the Soc's, they were emotionally scared to death because the others thought they lost Johnny for ever. Even so, Johnny was no good at all since he never had good parents, a good childhood, and even though he was always left on the streets he still mange to survive out in the cold and harsh weather and he managed to keep himself safe.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS-NERHU JAYARAM

Ponyboy Curtis is the main character and he is a very intelligent and solitary boy. He likes to be alone and he likes to watch movies. He is a fourteen years teenager who is an A student.  Ponyboy is from the east side, these people are poor and they are known as greasers. His parents are dead and he lives with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry is a smart, serious, non-smiling and very hard working person. He dropped out of high school so he could support his brothers even though he was very good in his studies. Soda is the opposite of Darry; he is a happy, very outgoing and extremely loud spoken person. Soda is also very handsome and he liked by all of the gang. He is light-hearted, and he can make anyone grin. He also dropped out of high school, but he was not good at studying. Ponyboy thinks he is in the middle of those two. He is a bit like Darry and a bit like Soda. He thinks that one day he will become like one of them.  Johnny is the gang’s pet he is liked by all of the gang. He used to be friendly and outgoing until the Socs attacked and beat him. Now he carries a switchblade in his pocket all the time. Jonny’s parents are mean and they abuse him physically and verbally. His parents don’t care about him so Johnny doesn’t go there very often. He usually stays with the rest of the gang. Johnny has been taught emotional pain and he is very disturbed. Dallas Winston known as Dally, is a typical gangster who has been to jail, he has been in fights and even attacked people.  He is cold-hearted and he doesn’t care about anything. Jonny idolizes Dally. He wants to be like Dally when he grows up. Dally seems cold and distant, but he cares for his gang if they are in trouble. Dally is rough but he likes to find trouble and he usually does. Steve is a protective teenager. He disliked younger people and found them annoying after a while. He felt his friendship with Sodapop threatened when Ponyboy was near them. He thought that he might destroy his relationship with Sodapop if he made a mistake when Ponyboy was around.

Character Analyze- Atharshan Kennedy

Character Analyze: The Outsiders

Johnny:

Johnny Cade is "the gang's pet." The novel describes Johnny as a "lost puppy" and a "puppy that has been kicked too many times." He is only 16 years old, but has already been beaten down by the cruelty of life. Johnny had been severely beaten by a group of Socs before this story begins. This beating puts him almost over the edge; in fact, the Socs scared him so much that he even carries a switchblade in his pocket. Johnny vows that, "He would kill the next person who jumped him." His parents abuse him both physically and verbally, and Johnny often opts to go anywhere but home. The theme of family love is clarified by Johnny many times, because his eyes have seen what family love isn't. Ponyboy tells the readers, "If it hadn't been for the gang, Johnny would never have known what love and affection are."

Johnny idolizes gang member Dallas Winston. Dally is living proof that one can survive without parents or family. Johnny needs to follow in the footsteps of someone in his life and Dally, his hero, is the one he chooses.

The relationship between these two boys is very interdependent. Just before Johnny dies, his relationship with Dally is clarified when Dally tells Johnny that he is proud of him: "Johnny's eyes glowed. Dally was proud of him. That was all Johnny had ever wanted." And Dally needs Johnny as much as Johnny needs Dally. Ponyboy realizes this truth after Johnny's death. When he tries to make sense of Dally's reaction to Johnny's death, it dawns on him, "Johnny was the only thing that Dally loved."

Question:
 1.  How do you feel about your family? And do they wish to love you or not?
A:"I feel that my family wouldn't care for me even though if I wasn't even in my own house. And so they wouldn't love me instead they would yell at me considering how my parents are these days". Says Johnny.

2.What do you feel about your surroundings and how do the people around feel about you?
A:"I feel that the people around treat me better them my parents at home and even if I was dead they would care for me." Says Johnny.

3. How would you explain death?
A:"I think death is like a slow and steady sequence were you have time to survive or die depending on your condition is".  Says Johnny.

First Impression-Brandon Dwyer

In the book there is a obvious battle for power between the greasers and the socials. During this a guy named Ponyboy he is trying to figure himself out in this world and is also trying to figure out where he belongs. He uses the power of his group the greasers to protect him but it just doesn't seem like Pony to stay in the group because it seems he is unsettled there knowing he must watch his back at all times. Although the greasers are there for him it always looks like Pony is by himself in this community and really needs someone too talk to before he really gets hurt. This story may highlight the conflict Ponyboy has with him self and problems with the socials. That's my view on this teen story and hopefully he is able to get himself out of the high school struggles.
