Ponyboy is a 14 year old kid who is in the middle of a gang war. He lost his parents in an accident and he lives with his 2 brothers, Darry and Soda. Darry works at a roofing store while Soda works at a gas station to pay the house bills and such. Pony is very friendly but he likes being alone and can lose track of time which gets his brothers angry at him. He is very fit for a boy his age and made his track team. Pony likes to watch movies alone and he likes his long, greasy hair, which is a trademark of his gang. Pony is not like any of his brothers he is in the middle. His oldest brother Darry is very serious and angry all the time. Soda is very funny and he makes everyone laugh. He is the centre of attention every time. Pony has very good marks at his school. He thinks that he will join Soda and work after he finishes high school. Darry wants Pony to go to college. In the beginning Pony thinks that Darry wants to get rid of Pony. Near the end, Pony comes to know how much Darry cares about him. Pony and Johnny are very good friends. One day when Pony was being beaten by the Socs, Johnny stepped in and help Pony by accidently killing of one the Socs. Afterwhich, Pony and Johnny run away and hide together for a week during which time their friendship grows even more. Pony and Two-bit are good friends and Pony likes Two-bit because he makes every normal thing seem funny. Pony does not like Steve much because he is under the impression that Steve doesn't like him hanging around Soda. Pony thinks that Dally is the only real gang member in their gang. He is very cold and does not have any compassion. Cherry is the only one who Pony could express his feeling as she understands him better and responds with true concern. Ponyboy thought that it was weird when she said she might fall in love with Dally if she ever saw him again. Pony did not think that the Socs had any problems until Cherry clearly explained the issues they had and he realised that there were problems everywhere and that they were all the same. Pony heard Johnny say that he should stay gold so Pony would stay good and not become bad. Pony was able to look from the perspective of the Socs and that helped him realise that all of them were equal and that they all had problems.

Stress is a main issues in the outsiders because well at the beginning of the story, Ponyboy is stresses from the fact that his brother, Dally, was to hard on Ponyboy thats when he runs away because he did't want to face the problems that had happened right now. Stress can lead him to a point where he want to take drugs so that why you will feel good about yourself, but hang out at places where you can get caught and sent to prison. Ponyboy ran away to the streets and took of with Johnny while he was sleeping in the playgrounds. The whole gang is put to stress because of the other gangs calling them names, having bigger groups then them, and have more money and live better then the other groups. For people who want help with teen issues they can ask someone that is close to them in family of uncle or ant. They can go to there friends but that is not a good idea since some friends are the ones who, let's say brought you into drugs. Either way anyone can help and give more info on teen issues.
